Climate change affects us all, but not everyone alike. Those who have contributed the least to global warming often suffer the most from its consequences. Not Just Celsius highlights the deep connections between climate change and inequality and explores how international legal frameworks can help advance climate justice. From 2022 to 2024, the project supported a groundbreaking, youth-driven movement urging the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to issue an Advisory Opinion (AO) on climate change and human rights – a step that has the potential to redefine global climate accountability. The project’s mission centered on three key goals:

Inform: Foster understanding about climate justice and inspire action through storytelling.
Collaborate: Together with young activists, CSOs, public institutions, artists and media makers, we would use digital platforms and live events to create change.
Amplify: Ensure the voices of those most affected by climate change impacts are heard in the historic process at the International Court of Justice.

Through workshops, storytelling platforms, and public activations, Not Just Celsius united diverse voices, showcasing the human impact of the climate crisis. This collaborative effort connected frontline communities, activists, and policymakers, fostering meaningful dialogue and driving tangible action across communities.

Driven by the inspiring leadership of our partners the Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change (PISFCC) and the World’s Youth for Climate Justice (WY4CJ), the project reflected the strength of collective action in the face of global challenges.

Though the project concluded in January 2025, its digital tools, stories, and resources remain available to support future advocates and contribute to ongoing efforts for climate justice.
