Themes and Narratives that shape our time

Two people are experiencing virtual reality together. One person is wearing a VR headset and gesturing enthusiastically, while the other stands beside them with raised hands, sharing their impressions. Both appear fascinated and engaged.

Our thematic focus areas address the central questions of our time. From cultural participation and community engagement to environmental responsibility and digital transformation. Through artistic and educational approaches we open up new ways of engaging with complex themes, think across disciplines and continuously develop our content in dialogue with society, science and practice.

Technology is not neutral. We make it negotiable.

Digital technologies shape our everyday lives, our decisions, and increasingly our social relationships, both individually and collectively. But who is shaping these developments, according to which values, and with what consequences?

Our formats explore issues such as algorithms, surveillance and digital self-determination. They reveal the impact of unregulated technological progress on our coexistence, especially when political or economic interests dominate the direction of digital development.

We contribute to a critical yet solution-oriented approach to digital transformation. By linking technological shifts with societal, ethical and political perspectives, we highlight that digital innovation not only affects individual rights, freedoms and everyday life, but also fundamentally shapes how we live together. It must therefore be aligned with the common good – to safeguard both personal agency and collective responsibility.

For the IMF, digital transformation is not an end in itself, but an opportunity to connect empowerment, transparency and artistic innovation. Through transmedia storytelling, we embed technologies within social contexts and create experiences that spark both reflection and creativity.

New Realities

Digital Resonance

Circular circuit board with the inscription “Tinker Tank” in the center, connected to several cables with alligator clips (white, red, black, yellow). The board is labeled “FRISBEE V3.0” and features various connectors and symbols.

Our projects explore these dimensions in a wide variety of ways:

MYRIAD. Where we connect. combines scientific data with artistic visualisation to reveal global ecological and social networks.

Your Data Mirror confronts people with their own data traces and sparks debate about privacy, transparency and self-determination.

As part of BAUHAUS SPIRIT, formats such as Audio.Space.Machine, Das Totale Tanz Theater and Baukraft were created. These reinterpret the Bauhaus idea for the digital present – through immersive soundscapes, virtual stage spaces and reflections on how space and society are interlinked.

Tinkertank brings digital transformation to life by encouraging experimentation with technology in an open lab setting. It’s a space where technologies are reinterpreted, remixed and creatively reshaped – making digital change a tangible and participatory process.

Visualization of Earth focused on the American continents, overlaid with fine bright lines representing global migration or movement routes. The background is entirely black, highlighting the structures on the planet’s surface.
The image shows a shadowy silhouette of a person behind a frosted, translucent surface. Clearly visible are the dark outlines of two raised hands forming an L-shape. In the lower left, a fingerprint icon appears next to the bold, digital-style text “YOUR DATA MIRROR.” The design evokes themes of surveillance, digital identity, and data control.
Dance Machine – Scene: A figure in a futuristic suit with helmet stands in the center, surrounded by large rotating rings. In the background, more figures in similar outfits are visible, with a sphere floating above.
Two young adults wearing masks stand at a crafting table, examining a silver metal bucket that appears to be part of a creative project. The table is covered with colorful foil, wires, circuit boards, and various workshop materials.

Digital empowerment

We are interested in how we can use digital technologies in ways that truly benefit society. They are changing how we live and relate to one another. In our projects, we explore the dialogue around opportunities and risks. And how digital innovation and humanity can come together.
